Troubleshooting advice on Magic 3.1
Need some insight on how to proceed from here.
I received my Magic 3.1 chip from The Console Corner yesterday and installed it today. Upon completion, I checked all my joints with a multimeter before hooking up my 30001 R V5. Got the dreaded black screen though :) No other problems.
In trying to isolate the problem, I just de-soldered all the points on the Magic 3.1 chip itself and tested the PSX2 again. This time round, I am back to status quo in that I can run all my NTSC/UC games successfully.
I conclude that since without the chip in place, the PSX2 is functioning fine, that means all the solder connections on the motherboard itself is good with no solder bridges/balls and that all motherboard components are hunky dory.
Does this mean that the chip I got is not working? How do I test on the functionality of the chip? Another thing is that for the 5V and GND connections, I used the same wire as the other connections, namely a 30 AWG Kynar wire. Will this affect the operation of the chip?
TIA for any help rendered!
