Trouble playing new game

I got Hot Shots Golf 3 for Christmas and it wont load but about 1 out of 20 times it go to the playstaion 2 on screen and than back to browser than I select disc and it does the play station 2 on screen again and just sits there at a black screen like it s trying to load but it does nothing.
I called Sony and they say its because it?s a silver disc DVD and the old machines have trouble with them but I have 3 other silver DVDs and it plays them grate Stuntman, Kinetica, Metal Gear Solid 2.
So I took back the game and got another one but from the same store and it did the same thing I thought it might be a bad copy but that didn?t help.
I had a new laser I got for a machine it was in it for about 2 weeks and the board went bad so I tried it and it didn?t work any better I have tried pod adjustments and wheel height adjustments the best I can get is it well load good when its warmed up and in the middle of the adjustments but you turn it off and let cool down and back to the same old.
Any one has any ideas or heard of any bad copies of Hot Shots Golf 3?

PS my playstaion is an SCPH-30001 NTSC U/C and never been chipped

Your laser could just need cleaning.

Is that PS2 by the chance a V1/V2/V3 unit ? that defect isn't strange at all to me, if it's a V1/V2/V3 unit.

PS2 motherboard type is GH-004 or GH-005 are likely to have dry solder problems on the CDVD DSP chip as it gets old. (The CDVD DSP chip is labeled as CXD1869AQ in V1/V2/V3/V4 units...)

bighap I have cleaned it and it dint help.

l_oliveira if that?s the problem (dry solder) them why does it play the other games?
and can I fix it?
