Another case of not reading my post "PS2 Soldering Tips" and this thread on mounting the magic 2 http://www.ps2newz.net/forums/showth...&threadid=332. Also my "Magic 2 Install Guide" Stickied here and also offered on the lik-sang web site.

Alright.. I got the same setup (V7 no underline, PS2 39001, Lik-sang, received 2 weeks ago). But I'm seeing some peculiar behaviors. I have to start the system with a PS1 boot style power-on (hold 2 seconds), otherwise the CD tray cannot close. Once I get the tray closed, I have to power off, then power on with single tap to play PS2 backups.
Tomorrow I'll try changing the 3.3V location, I had a bad feeling about the VIA - I poked the 24awg wire through and soldered it on the other side.
Any suggestions before I change the 3.3V location? Perhaps it's some other wire?
You have to recycle when switching modes - that's normal and in the instructions somewhere.
Actually, I did read both - btw, thanks for the wonderful guide.
Guess what, the problem was caused by the Z point! It was indeed making me start the system by holding reset for 2 seconds in order to close the tray, even then, the GameShark 2 will not work. So after I snipped the Z wire, everything worked great.
On a side note, I ruined my power/reset ribbon cable because I played with it too much. But I managed to repair it (to my own amazement) without soldering wires to it. On the bad end of the ribbon, I used a utility knife to peel & strip metal covering to expose the white plastic (1/3 inch), then I cut off the bad ribbon, and started to carefully scratch the plastic to expose metal connections. Finally, I peel off the hard plastic from the bad ribbon and then glued it on the back of the exposed connection, like before. Everything worked great!
By the way, is there any other way to get GameShark working with the Magic 2? Or any other device to cheat in games?
Amazing - I've got the no underline V7 chip in an NTSC 39001 with the Z wire on for curiosity and none of the symptoms you described have occurred.
My AR2 works with codes on the US PS2 (well it would with the Magic 2!)
Magic 2 flaws when ordered
Magic 2 flaws when ordered –
I ordered a V7 magic 2 from w*w*modchips*ca last night. then i get the email as posted below. Ok, i trust modchip*ca cause all the good things i read about them, and i'm glad they are .. seemingly.. professional about the problem. But nowhere on their web page did they warn me about this until AFTER i bought the modchip !! grr... be warned.
Due to a possible problem with the red and gold PCB magic 2 chips with the
v5-7 and a underline we decided to place all v5-7 orders on hold till our
testing was complete. We have now concluded that the newest magic 2 v5-7
underline boards have a flaw, seems the s signal is corrupt. The S signal
is solely responsible for the booting of ps1 games and this corrupt signal
causes no ps1 games to load and the dvd to pause, we removed the s signal
and all the ps2 and ps2dvd copies and originals play flawlessly. At this
point we are giving customers the option of waiting for the problem to be
fixed from the magic manufacturer or to have the chip shipped with no ps1
coverage. We know many customers do not care about the ps1 problem but we
are not sending out any orders unless the customer emails us and specifies
they still want the order shipped. Please note that this information is
brand new and we have only notified the magic producers today thus a
replacement will probably be at least a week away.
Since the replacements will be in limited supply we have already charged
your card to hold you your order, then again if you don't care about psx
games let us know as many are asking to just ship the order anyways.( we
will probably be sending a 3 or 4 wire fix chip in the next few weeks for
free if you ask for it just make sure to keep your receipt)
Thank-you- thank you for your order and patience you can imagine how we
feel about this entire situation.
If your waiting for the replacements please do not reply you will be emailed
when it ships.
