Tried to test ohms in coils.. now dvd drive doesn't work.. –
Hi there. I have a V9 PS2 and recently modded it with a Magic V. After reading the V9/10 syndrome thread, I decided I would test the coils on the dvd laser. I took the black cover off the laser and touch the two points with each of the leads on my multimeter, following one of the pics posted. The laser 'jumped' twice and now my PS2 will turn on, but the drive won't open and the eject button flashes blue... It may also be worth noting that the laser flashes red once when I hit the power button. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I do not want to buy another PS2 (no money).
Thanks very much,
I would also like to add that the PS2 boots up fine to the browser. And the laser does not move up or down at all. All the laser does is flash red once.
Did you test the coils with the PS2 on?
What do you mean by "the laser jumped twice" ?
Start by checking all the fuses on the motherboard first, maybe you just killed one of those and not the LA.
Yes I did test with the PS2 on. Is that bad? I'm at work now so I'll check the fuses tonight. And which fuses should I check? Thanks.
And by saying the laser jumped twice, I mean that I saw the laser very quickly move up and down twice. Faster than normal.
One more question. Does the PS2 need to be turned on to test the fuses?
Do I just check for continuity for the fuses?
Hi guys. Thanks for all your help on this. I tested the fuses and it turns out I had blown the PS11 fuse... the one close to the LA chip... thank god it wasn't the LA chip itself!
Thanks again for the suggestions,
You probably already know, and I am not really sure, but you better check the chip. I think it is pin 8, if it is grounded so is the chip.
Hopefully it is all good.
