When I finally fitted M2 succesfully I got a tray problem. The tray won't open When I press the eject button it flashes for few seconds but tray won't come out. It tries to read the CD however.

I installed an M2 chip and tested working fine including the tray. Then I had to open the case to check something. I attached all the data cables etc and tested one last time. When I first hit the eject button. It spitted out the tray like 10x faster. I knew that something was wrong.

I am pretty sure what went wrong. I checked the cd data cable (smaller ribbon cable - on the top). The last time I attached it on the board I must have bended one of the wires onto other two and shortcut it. Bummer. I corrected it but still no go.

That explains cd tray opened like crazy the first time and stopped working afterwards. I must have burned or did some damage to a component.

I tried the cd drive on another ps2 and cd drive is good. Must be a component on the board. I checked all the fuses that I could find on the board (v1) and they are all good.

What should I do? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I was reading the other posts on the subject. They talk about a BA chip. I tested the leg #8 on BA5810fp with a contunity tester as discussed in one of threads. It seems to be fine. No beep sound.

I am really stuck. I also check BA6664fm chip on the other side of the board. But I don't know how to test that one and I don't even know if it's even related to my problem.

    Thanks.

Check out your cd/dvd controller points (D,E,F,G,H,I). Make sure all the wires and connection are pretty low as things can start shorting once you put the cage/heatsinks on. Can you still boot if you have a disc in the drive?

g-spec, thanks for the reply. I can boot from the CD once it's in the drive.
