toggle switch for magic v 5k6?
toggle switch for magic v 5k6? –
I have a magic v 5k6 in my ver 10 ps2 and i wanted to put a switch into it, i did do a search but all i came up with was installs for a magic 3 or 3.5 and that was about it. i wasnt sure if the 5k6 was much different. i also no that this chip can be turned off by pressing the reset button so dont point this out. i need the switch for other reasons and was just woundering if anyone had put a switch on this modchip and if so what points did you "splice" and where did you put the switch on the outside, pics would be a great help.
thats to all the helpful replies
I dont have exact setting as yours. But idea should work.
Mine is a v7 with DMS3. I spliced the 3.3v wire. I figured if I don't feed power to chip, then it shouldn't work. I think the idea worked because if the switch is in the off position, ps2 won't read my backups.
The toggle switch(radio shack, red square button) is sitting next to the firewire port. I drilled a hole to the right of the firewire, about 5/8" in size(I think that's what the switch diameter is).
I also bought a bag of quick disconnects(64-3131, male/female for 22-18 gauge wire).
I have 4 pieces of wires(22gauge):
1: connect one end to PS2 board, another end to a male quick disconnect.
2: connect one end to switch. another end to a female quick disconnect.
3: connect one end to other foot on the switch, and other end male QD.
4: connect one end to modchip's power, and other end to female QD.
I tug this mess in inside and to the right of kill switch, under the controller cable. You can see my mess in the attached picture.
When you cut that 4 pieces of wire, make them long enough, and then solder to modchip, ps2 board, and feet of the switch. Then measure them, and see where you would like to hide. Then cut to desire length and crimp on the quick disconnects.
This way, if I ever need to take things out, the switch stay where it is. all you need is to uncouple that pair of quick disconnects.
Hope this helped.
i was thinking that cutting power to the chip would be the sulotion but then i read some of the post on the magic 3 and 3.5 and it made me hesitate a bit. so if anyone else can conclude all i need to do is just have the switch between the power sorce for the chip and the chip its self then i will get to work on making the switch
