Swap Trick Question...

I have a friend who is using the swap trick with no mod chip at the moment and we were baffled as to why some backups that worked on his other PS2 (with a mod) would not work on this system while others would. I seen from another post that someone was talking about their use of the swap trick and somthing came up about the system.cnf and executable files being set to their proper LBA location.

I aint sure exactly what that all meens but I was wondering if this would go some way to explaining the problem, and if it does, how can it be fixed.

Just so you know, all the backups are on CD-R format.
One of the ones that does work is Knockout kings from EASports.
He is using the card-slide swap method with the Action Replay (Brit version of GameShark) 2 v2

#1. The Slide Card will **** up your playstation2 ...
#2. Swap Trick doesn't support all games thats why everyone doesn't have fliptops ... I think only 60% of backups work with Flippy's and Cards.
#3. If the game doesn't work you must burn a Nomod patch to the game and then about 90% will work.

out of almost 200 that I've backed up, I've found maybe 5 that simply don't work with the swap method, they just stay black screen.... I found a list on some forum, somewhere that lists all the ones that don't work with the swap method, but since I started installing modchips, I never bothered to pay any attention to it.
most games work fine with the disc swap, but a few just don't, get your new ps2 modded, or give up on the ones that won't run, that's just how it is. sorry.

OK...call me thick but how does the swap method bugger the PS2? It's not like fliping the disk out while it is still spinning, or the laser is still reading from it. Thank's for the assist though guys, Much apreciated, just got resign to the fact that these game's probably won't work.

So what would you say was the best chip to get to use with the Action Replay?...this Magic three with the switch sounds like a lot of hastle to me, and is a little pricey aswell. I also herd off someone that I could put a PS1 chip into the PS2 and that would work...is this true or just a load of pish?

the swap trick doesn't harm the ps2 it's that slide-card . What it does it force the engine to give the tray out . It's an automatic function and when you keep forcing it the motor will die , and this may also harm the lazer. It just does a lot of wear and tear on the ps2. If you want to use the swap trick then get a fliptop.

But the Magic 3 isn't too pricey man , and it isn't the best chip that's affordable. I would recommend an Apple PRO chip at www.modchips.cc

When people talk about "60% of backups work" with swap tricks it usually means they're including DVD rips, many of which will not work correctly with swap tricks.

For true 1:1 backups (CD->CDR or DVD->DVDR) almost all backups will work, as Rotosound_rb666 pointed out.
