strange tray problem--too fast
I have a US v1 ps2. The serial starts with u0 so supposedly it is a v2 but it doesn't match any v2 diagram I have ever seen. It matches the v1 diagrams perfectly.
At any rate, until recently I have had a neo2 chip (with the pin2 capacitor) in it. I took it out in order to install a Messiah2 1.30. Before installing the Messiah, I tested the machine to make sure everything was okay. However, it's not.
Now the machine refuses to recognize cds. This is not a big deal. To be honest, I don't remember the last time that I played a cd game in it. Also, this could probable be fixed by a small adjustment of the laser.
The weirdest thing is the tray. I leave my machine in standby at all times. When the machine is first powered on, the tray will not open. After 1-2 seconds the tray will open/close slowly if you hit the eject button. If you wait for another 10 seconds and hit the eject button, the tray flies open/closed (much faster than normal). I found the exact same issue on another forum with a person using the neo2 mod but there were no replies.
My initial thought is that it much be a faulty capacitor somewhere on the board. One that is charging slowly and ultimately overcharging.
Might this be this case? And, if so, where should I start my search?
Oh, and don't worry about frightening me with any suggestions. I've gotten quite adept with a soldering iron. ;)
