  1. #1 Strange problem with my XO-2

    Hi!

I installed my chip 2 days ago and I've been playing nice. Today suddenly the PS2 won't turn on (eject's blue light flashes but nothing else).

I dismounted the unit to see what happened, and all the points are fine. I assembled it again... and it worked!! But when I was going to play again, the same problem... And now I'm dissasebmling it again...

None of the points are loose... The only strage things is that 3.3V (third pin on the diagram) is also touching 4th pin, but they where connected as I'm afraid. And the ground wire is 85% soldered (it has connectivity but it's not 100% firmly attached).

Anyone has an idea on this strange behaviour? I'm getting tired of making this thing to work by "kick method"

    Thanks & Greets!

First thing to do is to get someone to sort out the 3.3v and Ground. Something's touching that shouldn't be when the case is on and things are under pressure.

Do you think a long GND wire could cause this? Now that I've seen it, it's like 7 inches long...

Well, I did everything in the book and it's working now... Let's see if it's forever this time

    a) Resoldered 3.3V
    b) Cut 2 inches from ground wire and resoldered it.
    c) Tried putting a switch at scex point (dont try it, the DVD makes horribles noises , I guess because the long wires it doesn't even loaded PS1 games.
    c.1) Resoldered Scex.
    d) I put antistatic tape over every connection (over mobo and XO-2) - Looks ugly but it seems to be safer now
    e) Since I put the chip inside the cage, this time I only put screws on the corners, here and there (avoiding too much pressure)

Well, that were the fixes today, I hope this is the last time I need to open my PS2

IT HAPPENED AGAIN!! But now the PS2 always turns on, now the failure is the DVD tray... It comes out, but it doesn't close... If I close it with my hand it doesn't boot, but if I press again "eject" it opens again!!

The problem began (again) when I turned on the PS2 by pressing "eject" instead "power"

Can anyone test this? Could this be caused by using alternate points for B and C ?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    P.S.
I'll be trying to fix this... again

I don't understad... I dissasemble de unit, check (only seeing, this time no multimeter, no nothing) and since there's nothing I can fix, I assemble the unit again... and it works.... I leave it turned on while I'm putting the case screws, and then again fails....

May it be the heat? I thought XO can be inside since it won't cause too much heat...

    The same question... Ideas?

Power needs to be 22awg/24awg; gnd MUST be 22 awg.

Otherwise odd things can happen as thinner wire heats up.

Also take a look at the Z point. maybe wire/wires are being disturbed with the lid down So glue the wires into place.

I really don't know the size for sure (here is difficult to buy the wires by its awg size) but I'm using braided wires for both 3.3V & GND.

    Is that ok?

    Thanks for answering

I'm currently reassembling after resoldering Z, D,H,E,I and W which broke after so many disassemblings

Braided wire means nothing to me. It needs to be thick wire, stranded and insulated. Thickish. It is very important. Just read some of the posts where problems of the sort you are describing have been resolved by having the right wires in place.

Now I'm sure it's a heat related problem... I leave the (turned off) unit with the tray open for an hour... and it closed!

I suppose this has something to do with the wires as Charlie said. I've managed to find 22 AWG wire. The wires I had looks *almost* the same, but I'll try the new ones anyways...

    Let's see what happens....

    Thanks & Greets!
