Strange Neo2.2 problem - Please Help!
Strange Neo2.2 problem - Please Help! –
05-19-2003,12:57 PM
I've got a fellas' v4 PS2 that I installed a Neo2.2 chip into a long time ago. I decided I'd be a nice guy and put a Magic3.1 in for him. Unfortunately, I cannot get the machine to boot dvds or dvdrs at all with the Magic3.1. I've tried everything.
Anyways, that's not the problem I'm worried about. I ripped the Magic3.1 chip out (cleaning up all the connections) and re-installed his Neo2.2 chip. Now here's the strange problem:
The chip seems to work just fine - when you hold in the reset and let it go, the tray will open and close. But it will not boot a dvd (original game, swap magic, or movie) if you hold the reset button. For example, when I put in the Swap Magic Dvd Disc and press and hold reset (like you normally would to boot a dvdr), the PS2 goes to a 'browser type' screen (kind of a white background - kind of like the disc read error screen) that indicates it has a PS2 disc in the tray. It give you two options, press 'X' to play, or 'O' to go back. If you press 'X', it will just go back to this screen. I have this problem with every original dvd I throw in, but only when you hold the reset button. I've never seen this before, and have no idea what would cause it.
The laser on this machine is just fine. It will boot cds and dvds no problem without the chip. Actually... the machine boots cdrs just fine with the chip in (I forgot to mention that). It will also boot an original dvd game or movie just fine if you don't hold in the reset button.
Does anyone know what the heck could cause this? I've gone over all my connections a billion times and double-checked everything with a multi-meter, but because the chip will open and close the tray when you hold and release the reset button, it seems to me that the chip is working just fine.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks

Have you used the alternative points to weld the controller part with the magic 3?
Check the points of welding of your motherboard and look for any bridge.

Connections were all fine...
I actually decided to try another chip (just in case), and guess what? It worked. I have absolutely no idea what would have happened to the first chip, but at least it's working now. Man,... what a pain in the ass this machine has been!
Thanks again!
