I just finished installing a Magic V w/ the clip kit into a V8 PS2. I find that it is better and quicker at booting games.
Here's the thing though, I have a found that certain games have a freeze up spot. We only seem to test out mod chips during the booting phase, do we not test mod chips in every extent? Such as the following error I have?
I originally had a V7 PS2 with a Magic 3.1 w/ the clip kit. I found that certain games froze, and I figured out why. Games that are 3.8GB (approx.) or larger were doomed in my PS2. Some games seem to want to load data from the outer rim of the dvd early in the game. So far Final Fantasy X (beginning of the game, during the scene where the main guy is running away from the carnage and sees a boy who vanishes), Ratchet & Clank (while trying to load a saved game), and Alter Echo (the very beginning main screen). These three games I cannot play with a dvd-r copy, but an original works fine.
I found this out by have my PS2 case off and the upper lid of the dvd-rom off so I could watch the laser unit. It would go up and down rapidly trying to read the disc and eventually give up. You could hear the laser unit's gears and motor as it raised and lowered the laser unit.
Okay, if you are with me so far, this is what boggles my mind. I sold that older unit to a friend, and got the newer V8 and the new magic V, thinking I wouldn't have this strange problem anymore. But, I am getting the EXACT same problem!!! Anyone come across this problem and have a solution?!?
Boggled and frustrated...
