geez, i'm getting desperate
i have a PAL v4 w/ messiah...
I have some booting problems (not messiah related I think, just read on why) with PS2 CD-r's...
almost a year ago, i go my PS2 'chipped' with the NeoKey/S-Box. It was not performing very well, but i thought it might have been a bad install or something (because some cd's booted flawlessy and other just didn't load at all
)
I've struggled some time and after all i didn't use the CD-r function much...
Now i've got myself a messiah in my PS2 and i'm having problems with those cheapo CD-r's, I just get a black screen ( just before the PS2 logo appears, disc spinning, then stops). Or sometimes it makes some sort of clicking noises and it won't start spinning.
now here comes the real strange thing... I've booted up my PS2 MP3 Player to listen to some music (player = cheapo disc) then instead of putting in a disc with mp3's i put in my conflict desert storm cd1 cd by accident (this one won't boot normally! just keep on getting black screen, then 'cannot read disk' in green letters)
the ****ing cd loaded, and therefore i got scared and tried again, and again, and 5 times more, and it was still spinning and showing the contents of the disc!
i was using some cheapo cd's at first, i've changed to verbatims, without luck, but those (cheap) traxdata cd's just seem to work flawlessy...
I *COULD* burn all games again on those traxdata cd's, but that'
s helluva a lot of work!
only like 5 *old* cd's (including the mp3 player) are working atm... just don't want to burn like 50 cd's again
could my mainboard be damaged? (as it seems that my ps2 doesn't load those cheap cd's while 'booting' the ps2)
could the neokey installer have ****ed up something (the messiah installer was an expert, i've watched during install, everything went fully ok!)
is it just my laser and should i burn all games again on other cd's? (or buy a new laser, or adjust it?)

There's a good chance that its the media you are using that is the core of your problems, even though your MP3 player recognizes the PS disk and your PS2 doesn't. It all boils down to reflectivity of your media, the condition of your laser etc., but unlikely to be a fault on the mainboard.
Charlie_ps2 has a "sticky" on lasers and media, as this is very informative and acurate, best you have a read of that.
First up, try cleaning the laser, then buy some decent media and try burning it at a slower speed. If all else fails, then you may need to adjust your laser.
I hope I've helped.

the traxdata's seem to work fine for me (where tdk's and verbatim's don't
)
i'll start using that ones for now, to see if it goes ok with that (ain't going to re-burn my whole collection though, only a few games...)
btw, I've already cleaned the laser last week and found out that it doesn't matter...

it only helped SLIGHTLY, no real difference, if it would normally boot 1/10 times it would do like 1/9.5 now...
where the **** are we talking about then?
i clean my laser occaisonally.
