SPCH-30001...what is the best mod for me?

I currently have an original Neo 2, but this is obvioully limited in functionality and options. I want to upgrade to a DVD-R capable chip...what are the best options for me considering my version (V1) of PS2?

And as an alternative option would I be better of getting a newer ps2 machine and modchip pairing?

You are better off getting a new ps2. v1 lasers suck to begin with, but when you have already put it through the torture of a Neo chip, that makes it even worse. If you just want to play backups get a Messiah 2, Apple Pro, or Magic V. If you want to spend a little more for extra features get a DMS3.

Thanks for the insight....I am someone who has obviouslly not been part of the mod scene for a little while, but what are the bonus features that the DMS3 would bring, versus a Magic 3.1 or V. And is the 3.1 a good chip, they seem to be available in my area.

DMS3 allows for flash upgrades, macrovision off, and booting progs off your memory card. I would steer clear of the Magic 3.1. Get one of the chips I mentioned above.

With the new version machines...is there any that work better with the Magic V? What versions are they selling in the stores now? Is there a site url that shows me a list of the versions and what #'s = versions types?

Sorry for all the questions, just want to make sure I get the best option out there? Thanks!

Maybe for pal systems but for us systems it can be a v1-v4. He claims he has a v1.

It's a US model...and I got it the 1'st day the PS2 came out in North America.

In the US you will find v7 systems. The new v9 is not here yet. All the above chips work fine with the v7. Search the forum for version identification. It has been asked millions of times.
