Sony pimpin' V9s –
I recently heard some rumors that right now there are some refurbished ps2s circulating as new from sony.
But today when i dissassembled a bran new unit, from an official sony store - i saw:
sanded down and fluxed vias
bios chip all shiny in flux.
the 3v dsp point solderless but silvery
the alt. bios pads all silvery and fluxed up
a blob of solder on the outer GND region of the mobo.
the ps2 works like clockwork tho... just didnt know sony repairs& resells modchip ****ups
Thats pretty funny! I don't blame them, though....
Sony was probably required to repair that unit (because of verbal agreement, or intact warranty sticker, etc), and as a result of the mod-job screw-up, had to send their customer a new unit.
It only makes sense to recoup the money they lost (new console + man hours) by refurbishing and selling the ps2. Sneaky sneaky... the only way the end user would know is if they actually opened up the PS2 (which you arent supposed to do ;-)
How much was the unit from the sony store?
this is very interesting.
Do you have another V12 motherboard to compare them side by side (front and back) just to see if they made any change/added something on the motherboard?
If you don't have it, make some good pictures of it so that we can check them.
Chip&Chop - it was a v9, not a v12
