then i would suggest saving up your money and waiting for the dms3. they seem to be the only ones at the moment that are dealing with this particular issue directly..

I have to agree with Bgnome. The DM3 will be more expensive than Messiah 2 but if you want to play online games without worrying about the DNAS protection system for online games, then DMS3 is said to be the only available choice.
One word of caution, do wait to have it confirmed that DMS3 works with DNAS protected games. I don't think you'll have to wait long to find out because I believe that Guichi is on top of this one. Maybe he'll comment.
In the meantime it can do you no harm to buy an interim modchip for as little cost as possible (if you wish). I recommend the Apple in this respect which I have tested to my satisfaction. That way you can enjoy backups etc. very quickly and leave resolution of the uncertainty to a later date.

Blue Messiah is, IMHO, one of the crappiest mods known to mankind. Now watch the Blue Messiah fans wade in if they read this!

oh i see... thanks for the warning...
can you please give me the specific details about the apple chip that is compatible with my unit... just to make sure the installer will install the correct chip on my ps2... im thinking of trying the apple first...
my unit is again v5 SCPH-30001R
to charlie_ps2: other questions i have in mind:
- is it safe to change from one mod to another???
- is there a limit to the number of hours that can be played per day when a ps2 gets modded? i tend to play all day long...
- what are the features of messiah2 that are not present in apple?
- this may be off topic, but this unit was my second because
the first one broke down... it's problem was when i load a game, the browser comes up, the ps2 logo comes up, and when the game starts to play graphical images, the screen is choppy or the ps2 hangs... i tried this for all my games (ZOE, FFX, and MGS)... what do you think was the problem??? i'm just curious to ask since you know a lot about ps2s...
sorry if i tend to have a lot of questions... im basically a ps2 owner afraid of losing another ps2 for fear of not being able have one ever again...

Charlie's reply: This site has the details: http://www.geocities.com/apple_chip88/
to charlie_ps2: other questions i have in mind:
- is it safe to change from one mod to another???
Charlie's reply: Yes. I did it many times before assembling the 37 pin socket.
- is there a limit to the number of hours that can be played per day when a ps2 gets modded? i tend to play all day long...
Charlie's reply: Nothing beyond what;s sensible. The PS2 should not be where it can overheat.
- what are the features of messiah2 that are not present in apple?
Charlie's reply: You really should look this up for yourself. But the main ones are that Messiah 2 direct boots DVD9; Messiah 2 switches off if you need to. Other differences are relatively minor.

Charlie's reply: Don't know ebough about your original PS2. It's usually laser related.
