yep that's pretty much it.
Swap magic basically fools the ps2's copy protection check by loading your backup from within the program.
modchips control and manage the loading proccess so no user input is neccessary
why use swap magic?
*cheaper
*no need to solder anything "unless you want to install a laser fix"
*undetected by DNAS for online gaming "need disc ID patching tho"
why use modchips?
*Not everything can load in SM "limited by the TOC size"
*its frustrating and takes a while to do the whole swap thing for every restart/game change
*DVD is NOT region free "you can either play PAL or NTSC movies"
*Chips have a sleep mode for online playing
*Run homebrew apps
*PS2 hard-disk support
*Some chips can load apps from your memory card "including from the slimline" like the Crystal chip. Examples of apps "mp3 player, Divx player, picture viewer"
