Some games working, others not??

The problem is that my ps2 will play all of the older games just fine, but when I stick the newer games in it seems, the disk will not load but maybe 1/100 times, and it makes a clicking noise, which then scratches the DVD itself.

Has anyone else ever seen this, and what do you recomend? Thanks,

The Laser White Cog adjustment, perhaps? You don't say much about your PS2 version etc. So not much else to go on.
