The flux you would want is the one in a tube. It's not on the Radioshack website, but it IS in your local store. Just call up one of your local Radioshcaks and ask if they have any "Rosin Soldering Flux (ca no. 64-021)", they should have it even though it's not on the website.
And be sure to check this soldering guide:

Did me wonders...![]()
aside from using solder with flux incorporated, it's wise to get some flux on the area which you will be soldering your wire to (i use flux paste).
razor blades didnt work too well when i tried soldering to the bios pins. as an alternative, i used paper. however, make sure your paper is of the rather thicker gauge; normal paper will burn right before your eyes. By thick i mean thin enough to fit between the pins, but dense enough to withstand the quick and intense heating caused by soldering iron contact.
Thanks for the tip, I tried just that and now have all six of my cd/dvd controller connections soldered to the IC legs. I never thought I'd see that!Originally posted by KillerSpaz
..(snip)... BTW, about the magnet core, if you heat it up too much (say with a lighter), then you will end up reversing the polarities... that is, your wire is rejecting the solder... try clipping it, or use an exacto first without heating..
I ended up using the 0.006" or 0.152mm thick feeler gauge strip (this thickness is about half of the distance between the pins on the cd/dvd controller) to make a 'razor blade'. The piece I cut was about 2mm wide by 10mm long. I thought I could bend it 90degrees but it just snapped - to brittle. So, I just stood the strip straight up between the pins and held it with fun-tak. My connections went well after that.
pureangst: good one on the paper.. didn't even think about that, but with my sanded-down tip, i didn't have any problems with connections
