Alright, I know this has been asked alot, so I looked at other posts first, but I didnt find any with a magic 3.1 and v7 ps2 which I have.... anyways, I soldered everything in, and when I turn on the ps2 there is no picture, black screen.... everything else works fine, like eject, power, I can even hear everything working inside, but there is just no picture....

Is this a problem with my install? or something else?

Also, what does each wire on the Magic 3.1 do? I assume Z is for eject, but what about the others?

sounds like you bridged a point or blew a fuse I think, use a multimeter and check the fuse(s) and then if you get a reading from them, check all of your points on the chip. I have never used a multimeter nor have I ever chipped a PS2 (I ordered 2 Magic3.1 Chips and will chip my PS2 when I get it next week). But if you testa point and dont get a reading then I take it that it is bridged. Hope this helps

Alright.. I re-installed the magic 3.1 and booted it up... now its all weird... Sometimes it boots to a black screen, but sometimes it doesnt... I can get PS2 games original and cdr ones to boot up sometimes but they all freeze after the PS2 logo. and with PS1 games they boot up fine but always freeze after the PSX logo...

Very strange... would this just be a loose wire or something??

as for the black screens, take a really close look at your bios points.. mnop i think they are (i don't have the diagram in front of me)..

also, to check for good continuity, i suggest checking for resistance (marked by the greek letter Ohm).. if you get a 1, that means there is pure resistance, or there is not a connection... if it approaches 0 (it will never ever reach 0, that is, if you have a good multimeter it will give you an actual reading), that means there is a good connection...

something i like to do is, if i'm connecting to an IC (integrated chip) or a resistor cap, i like to check from my solder point to the leg on the magic3 chip (not the solderpad... i like to see if it goes all they way through)... this tells you the wire is down good.. but to check fuses, on a 2KOhm reading, you will still get a 1... so change it to 2M or 200MOhms to get a reading... if you still get a 1, the fuse is blown.. otherwise you should have a reading

Note: Digital multimeters actually calculate resistance, they don't measure.. so your not "measuring" resistance, your estimating... estimating is all we need for this..

Alright, this thing is just pissing me off now..... I figured there was either a problem with my install, or the chip itself because my ps2 worked fine without it in... so I ripped everything out and started again, this was easily my best mod chip install... everything was perfect... so I go turn on my ps2 (with the chip in) and now the discs dont even spin, it just boots the ps2 into the default screen when you turn it on.... Not one of the discs I put in would even spin at all..... soo, Any ideas?
