Right now I'm using a Neo v2.5 modchip and I'm only using CD-R's.

My PS2 is a version 3 (I'm pretty sure) and my Gameshark is only v1.3.

I just bought a DVD writer.

What do I need to buy to be able to play DVD backups on my PS2?

Should I just buy a new modchip? (20+ wires to solder scares me a bit though)

...or should I upgrade to Gameshark 2 v4.0 and then use a swap method?

If I remember correctly, V3 PS2 won't play any DVDs at all no matter what chip you install. I think v7 PS2 starts to support DVD format discs. However, I could be wrong though.

I thought saving 15% on my car insurance was good but having my ps2 modded by N£TM£ÇH was way better!

i had a v3. if you still are keen on using the swap trick, it can be accomplished with the gameshark and an original dvd game

100% you can use gameshark + neo2.5 to load DVD-R Game
The Version of gameshark must be v1.90-v1.93 and
you need a orginal DVD game (Devil may Cry) to load the DVD-R game.
