Hey guys long time no see. I have been away for a while (who cares lol!) anyways, as you all know there is a new Ps2 out. what are the options of modding it without a modchip? No hardrive bay so thats out of the question. Any, 100% Swap disc solution, that works 100% with all games? Or anything out there that a noob like me is not aware of. I would greatly apreciate some help.... If you cant say, at least point me in the right direction .

    Hi there.

    simply put:

    1) Since the USB ports on the PSTWO are USB 2.0 there is a 3rd party HDD product being developed.

    2) SWAP solutions are not always 100%, some need patching.

    3) Crystal-Chips work with the V12.
DMS4 product has been announced to work with the V12.
And other products coming but not 100% yet...

yes gamespot confirmed, its 1.1 USB

as far as using a swap magic disc, its just a matter of overiding the sensors, and you can bet your ass, there will be tonz of different ways to produce the same effect...

    good luck on your endeavors

The USB on the Slimline PSTwos are USB 2.0. I called the SCEA Consumer Services(1-800-345-7669) and asked myself. Yes they did tell me that the USEAGE was the same as the PS2 however when I asked if it was 1.1 or 2.0 they confirmed it to be 2.0.

USB 1.1 has been renamed USB 2.0, the difference is whether its FAST USB2.0 or NORMAL(??) USB 2.0. Its been that way in PC land for ages,

    wth?

There are no "fast" USB 2.0 and "normal" USB 2.0. It's just USB 1.1 and USB 2.0.

Glad you posted this, as I was just about to.

I bought a PS2 yesterday and to my surprise (and disappointment) it was the new slimline PS2.. I would have rather gotten the last version, but as long as its mod'able, I'll be happy.

Since Crystal Chips work (and I'm a PS2 N00000B), where can I read more about the Crystal Chip and where to get it?

I just ordered a premodded PSTWO with a DMS4 chip. I had to decide between that or the crystal chip. I couldn't find enough info on the Crystal chip so I chose the dms4. The crystal chip requires you to flash it with something to make it play backups. I couldn't find where this was available, so I didnt' order it. I'm a noob to all of the modchip stuff. I've been using swap magic.
