So I'm considering getting a modchip... –

Ok, so after all these years I am considering investing in a modchip for my v.10 PS2 but I have a few problems;
1. I don't have all that much experience with soldering.
2. I'm not sure what modchip would be best to get.
3. I'm not sure where to actually order the modchip.
Also, my cousin has a v.13 PS2 and he's also considering getting a modchip, but he's in the same boat as me. He also wants that kit to use the HDD, he said he would prefer the one that replaces the PSTwo case(HDCombo?) but he'd settle for something else. But still, I wouldn't say I'd be comfortable enough with my soldering skills(or my Iron, cheap P.O.S.) If someone could recommend some solutions for us, we would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!
That reminds me, and I know this isn't the place to ask but since i'm here... If i decided to get a new Iron and some soldering practice kits, what size tip and what wattage Iron should i get, or if i got a temperature controlled iron, what temperature should it be set to for working with PS2 or PSP soldering?

Well for some modchips you can checkout these sites,
http://www.modsupplier.com/catalog/p...s-c-25_27.html
http://www.modchipcentral.com/store/home.php?cat=16
For the irons the best is a pencil tip, (very pointy thin tip) 15watt
As in learning it, you can practice on old things like and old pci computer card.
On youtube there's videos of how to solder and when you apply heat only put the iron for 2-5seconds(5max)
For the wire your going to need this type
http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2062642
For the power suppy, Volt and gound, use a wire about this size
http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2049745
it doesnt have to be that wire exactly use about that size. I used the wire from a old composite cable.
The best modchip to get would be Matrix Infinity, but if they do have the clone, Modbo4.0 works great and never had no problems, had it for a year now, in a Version14 slim.
For the v13 slim Harddrive this is great to buy things from so are the other two.
http://www.modchipman.com/hd-connect-p-410.html
If i can remember anything else I'll tell you.
There's many people on this site with experience on modding, such as bootleg, JNABK and many more so just listen to them too.

@amp2006
The link you gave just comes to a page that says "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms."
@Dark Mod
Thanks for the soldering info from your PMs, but the sites you sent(except for the "taobaodao" one) about the Mars Pro either don't display properly in FF/IE7, or they have the worst layouts i've ever seen. They also only allow you to buy by emailing them? I'm just not so sure I trust something like that.
@weirdjerz3y
Wow you answered the question i was gonna edit into my post about what kind of wire too lol. I've ordered from modchipman and modchipcentral before, and they've always been pretty good, so I'll probably look into something they have.
After reading through a ton of forums and misc. articles, I think i'm gonna go with the Modbo 4. I couldn't find hardly any info on the Mars Pro GM-816HD, and no one carries the other modchips. Plus I always hear good things about the Modbo 4.
As for the Iron, the only places we have anywhere near where I live are Walmart and RadioShack. I refuse to buy an Iron at Walmart... I'm on the wall about RadioShack though, because I have bought some good stuff from them before, but i've also got some bad stuff. I did find this on thier site though;
http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...28&tab=summary
Would that iron work well enough?
Thanks for all the info!

Well since I don't want installing my mod chip to be my first real soldering job(i've only done very, very minor things), I was considering buying this;
http://www.hobbytron.com/G-300.html
It seems like it would be perfect to help me learn more, plus it says something about LEDs, which I'm considering doing to my PSP(and probably my PS2) eventually. I don't want to go out, get all this stuff, and just start soldering onto my PS2 or PSP after all.
I also found this;
http://www.jenrathbun.com/Electronics/Matrix.html
Which would probably be good if i wanna learn about SMD LEDs, because I think that's what is used when you add LEDs to your PSP.
