Smartchip Problem –
I just finished an install on my PS2 version5/6 with a Smartchip Pro from Evolutionmods. First appearances everything seems to work ie, original DVD's boot, dvd-r copies boot, PS1 games boot,
movies play, etc all boot really fast and first shot. I'm having a real hard time with CD-R rips. If I'm lucky, I'll get 1 boot in 50 tries. These are all games that I was previously playing on my old PS2 version 3 with a Neo 2.2 chip. I don't think it's the laser or an adjustment because it boots everything else first shot. I don't get a disc error either, it just goes to reading disc, - no data screen. Since the balance of my games are dvd-rips on CD-r I really need to find a solution to this problem. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
Hopefully I've got a bad wire or something that is fixable.
this is a problem with the smartchip, i myself stopped stocking smartchips for this very reason. Only thing you can try doing is burning the game on a different brand media.
I was having the same problem with a few different chips.
I tell everyone to go for the DMS3 that had/has a neo
They seem to handle everything and I've had no compliants since

Well I contacted Evolutionmods, and they suggested shortening the SCEX wire and now it boots CD-r 90% of the time. I shortened the wire from about 5 inches to just under 1.75 inches.
I guess this is as good as it gets with these chips. DVD-R boot time is excellent though, very fast.
