As the title says, I have a slim ps2 here that a customer brought in that gets no video and no sound. It seems to boot fine, laser works, but nothing on the screen. Anything I should look for/test in particular.

I would say test all the fuses 1st, but you'd prolly have done that already...
Ya, checked them all. I was just wondering what area more to check or something to look for anyways. Stupid PS2's.
Well I tested the video cable by plugging in a cable and testing the bottom of the motherboard with my multimeter to make sure all the points are connected good and they all test, so it's not fuses, not the cable, not the av jack. I'm out of ideas unless its a MB chip, in which case its more than likely toasted unless someone has some good ideas on anything else to try?
I have the exact same problem with a V7. It's the bios chip. To test my theory, get some coolant spray for electronics and spray the bios, then turn it on while the bios chip still has frost on it.

(I tried posting the full URL, but the system won't let me.)
Mine works that way - which means I need a new bios chip, and the only way to get one of those is to take one from a broken ps2 board using a hot air station or something. I've supposedly got one on the way from a supplier of mine who has a stock pile of dead ps2 boards. I've never tried this before, but I'm going to give it a shot. Hopefully if I get a compatible bios, it will work again.
Weird. I'll have to check around there and see what I can come up with. But this one was never chipped, so the bios must have just died if thats what it is. As for changing the bios chip, not likely. lol.

Yeah, the one I had the bios die in recently was chipped with a magic 2. I had electrical tape over the thing to protect the solder points from the metal heat shield in the unit, so maybe my tape being there caused it to overheat over time, I'm not sure. I'm not looking forward to swapping the chip out, but everything else in that console works great, so it woudl be a shame to have to trash the board.
Might wanna give the voltage regultors a quick check also. as for the ios chip, that's a really weird problem, don't see how it could've fried... esp without a modchip.
ok, how do i check voltage regulators...lol
use a multimeter and check the output pin. the 7805 will give out 5V, the 7808 will give give out 8V.
Looking at the regulator from the top:
