Simple question, maybe not simple answer.

I just purchased myself a brand new version 5 scph-30001 R PS2. I've installed mod chips before, so that's not an issue with me. I don't watch DVD's on my ps2 because I have a far better dvd deck. The back up games I am most interested in playing are GTA 3, GTA Vice City, Gauntlet, Final Fantasy X, FFX2, and Kingdom Hearts. Which mod chip do you think is right for me? 2 other questions. Is DVD9 an issue in my case? And does the Magic 3.1 chip have a clip kit? Thank you for your time.

The best chip as of now would be a messiah 2. Even the magic 3.1 has had reported problems..... you can get one a foundmy.com or by emailing charlie_ps2
Messiah 2 fully supports DVD9. Magic 3.1 still has some problems as reported by charlie. (i hate to sound like and after school special with this comment, but..) Play it safe, get a messiah 2.
magic 3.1 is the same PCB design as the magic 3. It just has revisioned code. A magic 3 clip kit would work on a magic 3.1, but clips are not advised. They can come loose, not be on flush, take up space and not allow the case to go back on flush and some are reported defective, and not even work. Better to solder it and make sure its a good connection. Get it installed by a pro
the only downside to the messiah 2 would be its a bit more expensive than the magic 3/3.1, but you get what you pay for ; its an amazing chip.
hope it helps.

I think Magic 3.1 is where Magic 2 was + DVD9 support. I wouldn't touch Magic 3, but Magic 3.1 is passable in most things. Messiah 2 does all the other things like booting on the Eject button - so if you're fussy.
As I say, Magic 3.1 suffers some of the gremlins ogf Magic 3 not booting certain backup games that other chips boot.
