No sir, it will still be capable of reading your original games, until your laser dies from you using crappy media which puts a strain on its life.
Use the best media dvds possible to backup your games, I would go with Taiyo Yuden.
It ain't as cheap as the others, you get what you pay for, but your laser isn't at all!
Thanks :) My ps2 has been broken lately.. It won't read any dvds icuding originals. I got curious so I opened my ps2, I saw that one of the wires connected to the modchip is broken.
Since I don't know how to solder, I decided to just remove the modchip and all its wires.. maybe the originals will work this time. But when I tried to play an orig ps2 dvd game, its still not working.. I got really confused if its about the modchip or the laser/lens..
Thanks to you :) It's now clear to me, it's because of the crappy laser, haha. Guess i just have to replace it with a new one..
