    Hi, I just got a Apple chip for my 39001 (V7) PS2.

when I disassambled the PS2, following some instruction I found on modchip.ca, I got all the way to removing the system board. but the I don't seem to be able to remove the heat sink easily. No one talks about how to remove the heat sink, so this shouldn't be that hard. I just don't want to force it off. Can someone tell me what's holding the heat sink in place and what's the best way to get it off so I can access to that side of the board.

I guess I was okay on soldering, I finished on side of the work then realize I need to access the other side. I had to remove the chip for now, and my PS2 still works.

My Magic 2 v7 Install Guide has full v7 disassembly instructions.

I had problems in removing the heatsink from my v5-board. There is a mat of some material between the cpu and the heat sink which sticks to the CPU. Remove all small screws (these are pointed out in the internet instructions floating around) and grab the heat sink and just pull. I had to pull the sink for about a minute in different directions to make it come off.

    good luck.

    Thank you All,
Now that I know what to look for, it should come off easy. I will give it another try.
But after reading the guide on this site. I think I need to get some thinker wires. Thanks again for all the info.

Heatsink removal is actually a common question. Charlie_ps2 document (atleast the version i used when installing my Magic 2) did not show the "big screw" holding the heatsink in place.

you can see a pic of this screw here, look at STEP #13
