  1. #1 Question Several Question about the BA chips...
    outphasen Guest
I installed a DMS3 for my v7 ps2 last night. Everything was working great until this morning I tried to play a backup and the screen froze. There was a kind of burning smell so i shut it off and inspected it inside. I suspected it was the chip so i desoldered all the wires. After that I get black screen / no eject. I finally traced the burnt smell to the BA5815FM chip. No noticible signs of burning except smell are linked to the BA58.

How can I dissapate heat from the BA58 fast, I believe that it overheated.

I noticed when I tested the 8th pin to a ground point that the ohms was around maybe 9.00 ohms. also on the BA6664FM chip I noticed that pin 8 actually did test positive for continuity on a ground point. Is this normal?

Also, what is the best way to remove the BA58 Chip, there are many different instructions on here but I dont know which to choose.

    Thanks in advance.

yes, your ba5815fm and ba666 chip both look like they are dead, i t hink ive heard just using a small bit of desoldering braid will do the job (gotta use a little bit of force to get the pins off the b oard I hear...

i get the LED light on if that's what your talking about. - but i think i found a new problem. When I test for continuity on the ps11 fuse, nothing happens. Does that mean the fuse is blown? Where can I get a fuse and how can i install it?

edit : the blue eject light isnt on.

It is perfectly normal for the pin 8 of the BA6664 chip to be linked to ground. So your BA6664 chip is most probably not dead. I have seen over this forums some members that don't understand yet that this is normal for the BA6664 chip.

If the resistance between pin 8 of the BA5815 and ground is small or zero, then the BA5815 is burned and has to be replaced. You have to replace the fuse near the BA chip too if it doesn't show continuity. Also you have to check the resistance of the LASER coils. They should be each 5 ohms.
