I've noticed on some sites (chipzone.com,gocybershop.ca) say you can install the magicV mod on a v4 no-gap ps2. Is this true? Should I install a magicV on a scph-35001 (gt3 version) ps2?

Good question.... I'm interested in an answer too.
I have two 30001 R models at home and thought MagicV would work, so I got 2 chips. Then I found out one of them is a V4 board after I opened it up(feel stupid now). .
If someone has a diagram or a picture, it would be great.
Thanks in advanced.
You sure can.. just not sure if it works that well.
I installed my magic v into my GT3 v4 gap (35001) and it will play orginals with the chip in sleep mode.. it will play ps1 back ups in ps1 mode..
But heres where i have problems
With the chip in the first mode(hitting reset once from standby) it wont play anything. *with any type of disk.. orginal ps2/1 games, ps2/1 backups, even dvd movies.. orginals and backups*
It goes to the browser screen.. reads the disk.. then the disk shows up but when u select it the screen goes black.. flickers then goes back to the browser cd screen (screen with white back ground).
I have installed a handful of ps2 chips and numerous xbox chips I am a decent solderer. I checked all my solders over and over and over and didnt find any bridges.
I even disconnected the bios wires.. sucked up all the solder with a deslodering wick then resoldered them.. with no bridges.. still same result
So right now Im stumped.
But the ps2 functions normaly with the chip off and will play ps1 back ups in ps1 mode (holding reset till blue light comes on)
If anyone has any answers they would be much apprciated
Well with that info I can conclude that the magicV doesnt patch the bios properly but patches the rest good. But bios is the most important part, so I think the magicV has to be installed on the specific bios found on V5-8's. Maybe itll work on non-gap bios cause its the same as the bios or similar to the bios found on v5-8, I may be wrong!!!
