Reading the troubleshooting section in charlie_ps2's messiah 2 installation guide for v5/v6 ps2s, I see that if psx backups don't work the first thing to suspect is the SCEX connection.

So if a psx backup works but a ps2 cd backup does not work, does that mean that the SCEX connection is no longer suspect, that is the problem is elsewhere? Thanks.

SCEX is only for ps1 games on the m2, so if psx backups work, you know your power ground, reset, clock, and scex wires are good.
