As the topic states, I have a v9 that I put a Duo2se in, did the romeo mod first. I glued everything together, screwed it all together, and it worked fine last night for a few hours on backups and everything. Woke up this morning and it only gives the RSOD of any original and shows a gold disc on backups. What could cause this? I was thinking the romeo mod but I'd hate to undo it if possible and would like to know where to look before I start resoldering everything so any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanx.

Sounds like your laser might have fried even with the Romeo Mod. I never do the Romeo mod, because each time, you can hear how the laser struggles; sometimes clicking and lurching. reverse the mod first to see what happens.

Check the R wire. Make sure it's away from all the other wires.

Well now it boots originals again fine and gold disc on copies so I'll check the wires but at least the laser's not fried since it reads originals so that makes me feel good.Thanx for the input people!

I do not say that it's the laser, but do not belive that if the machine boots originals then the laser is ok. A bad backup, low quality media, used to cause the gold disk. Did you test it with cd-r backups aswell ???

    regards, Stephen

LOL. So you rather have your ps2 burnout rather than have the laser struggle? It's rare for the ps2 to burnout with the romeo mod. I've never had the laser struggle on me after romeo mod though.

Tony, I think there's as much chance of the laser dying with the Romeo Mod. I just do it normally, and when I get back a blown LA6508 on the board (around 1 out of 20 machines for me), I replace it with the generic 6508RII for free and that particular machine never gives problems again - (generic 6508 handles the dodgy laser better)

You're not very lucky I guess. Cause I've only had one customer that had problem with romeo mod out of all the mods I've done. Ask some of the modders here if they have many problems with the romeo mod. I doubt it's a 1 out of 20 death rate.

I do the romeo on every single v9 and v10 I come across - first thing after opening it up. So far no returns. If you use quality media with the romeo your fine - it'll last just about forever.
