Ripper IV Problems...
Hey, before reading this, please head out here http://www.psx-scene.com/forums/show...ight=ripper+iv and read my post (1st one).
I'm doing a V8 (GH-022) install with Ripper IV modchip. Since the motherboard is identical to a V7 and Ripper IV only has diagrams for V7, i go ahead and install the chip accordingly.
If you've read my previous post about Ripper IV and V7, you'll notice i had to switch to a different W & S point for the chip to work properly. Well, i've tried that, and this time, it still doesn't work. Same thing happens. I get to the Playstation 2 logo, and i can hear the dvd drive going berzerk. Then, i get to the red screen. Tried various backups that do work on my own PS2 but they dont work on this V8 ps2.
Anybody has a clue about this?
Maybe somebody can suggest other diagrams for this chip / PS2 version?
Thanks a bunch!

That's only the W, A & S points.
And it's identical to V7.
I will try another modchip, i'm pretty sure it's deffective.

Replaced chip, still no go. This is getting frustrating once again.
Will try to use Y point from matrix infinity.

Nothing seems to do it.
I guess the Ripper IV chip doesn't like V8 PS2.
If anybody has any thoughts about this, feel free to share them, i would rather try other things than return an unmodded PS2 to a customer.

I've tried with that diagram (only difference is the "blank" point which i soldered to blank point on chip) and still no luck, now i get a black screen. I figure the blank point was meant not to be soldered, but it all comes down to the original V7 diagram.
Anybody knows where i could get good budget PS2 chips within Canada? The Ripper IV chips have just caused me trouble since the begining. Too bad they don't work the same on all PS2 versions because when they do work, they work like a charm.
Maybe if someone could tell me what original chip the Rippper IV is based on, and show me some of the diagrams for the original chip.
I'm still hoping for a working modded PS2 before monday. Any tips are still appreciated.
Thanks!

I have done some more tests overnight, and noticed with the V7 diagram, i will quickly get to the Playstation 2 logo and then after some effort from the dvd drive, end up to a "no data" screen. You can really hear the dvd drive "trrrrr tac tac tac tac tac" not so loud though. It reads originals just fine, but not backups.
If anyone experienced something similar with any kind of modchip, this could be a simple issue to solve (hopefully).
Thanks!

Well my friends, seems like this time the error was partly human. First of all, when i switched chips, i forgot to solder the activation points. Good one, heh. Second of all, the chip didnt like the backup i was mainly testing with, so once i soldered both activation points and tested with another backup, everything went smoothly into action.
Thanks alot for the ones who helped, i will one day me a Ripper IV chip specialist. Heh....
