Restistor Point A gone, replacing causes a weird problem.
Got a V3 console with a GH-006 mainboard over here. When is soldered a HK-MAgicII clone in, something went wrong. I accidentaly pulled too hard on the wire wich was attached to the resistor (wich is the A point). The resistor is black coated and seated next to a brown resistor. Now here's the deal:
I carefully refitted the resistor. Then a weird problem occured. The cd/dvd drive seems to be continiously (how do you spell that one?? :) ) resetting. This prevents the systembios to load. Acually, i think the sysytem is in a never ending reset loop. Now i followed the track to the pin on the dvd controller chip. The track runs underneath the brown resistor then bends to the chip.
I thought that the resistor was damaged, but i measured is with a multimeter (OHm setting) And i read 0.48. So it seemed to be ok. I also tried a same kind of resistor from a v3 mainboard wich I have for spare parts (so. broke one......everyone has to learn...)
Now the cd drive seemes to recognize cd's.
With the chip installed, exept for the A point, nothing is recognised. Whith the A point of the modchip connected to the controller chip (that's why i followed the track) it recognizes the disk as a PS2 disk, but can't do anything more.
This one became a real brain breaker...The drive seems to eject, but doesn't always close. And when it closes, it sometimes only closes when you hold the eject button or else it just stops closing.
Weird problem huh? I hope you guys can set me on the right track. Or just have an idea.
And can somebody tell me how to count the legs on chips? Where do I start? Do I have to count clockwise or counter-clockwise?
Any help is welcome (Dutch: Alle hulp is welkom)
Greetings from a dutch installer.
done 12 ps2 moddings
1 messiah original (working 100%)
2 Rippers (100%)
4 Magic 4 (those hk's) workin 75% or less
5 proplay (nearly same as magic 4) (75% and up)
