Well, my friend and I are installing the modchip, and we accidentally removed the fan plug right from the motherboard, is there a chance we can solder the plug back onto the mainboard?

    Any help is appreciated, THANKS!

Try soldering wires to the two contact points. Use a multimeter. The socket is a formality of function.

solder the socket back onto the 2 contacts if possible.. if not run the wires to the contacts.. if the contact pads are gone connect 1 wire to 5 volts and another to ground.

A customer of mine did this to his PS2 as well. The leads on the plug itself are too weak to actually take the pad with them in the event it's pulled out (though I suppose there are exceptions). I just soldered them back onto the pads, but make sure you have a fine tip because I had trouble getting my iron in that tight spot.

Glue it into position with a bit of superglue then solder the two little wires back to the pads.

If you can't get the iron in there you can always solder some wire from the pads to the plug like netmech said. It'll have some extra length, but at least it works.
