I was installing a crystal chip on a V9 board every thing looked to be ok. turned the Playstation on flashed the firmware every thing ok. reset the PS2 and the green and blue light stayed on. turned the ps2 off and back on again same thing happened. left the ps2 off for 15mins started it up and it almost went to boot a original but then crashed. have removed the chip but still it wont read any discs.

    any help?

    Thanks

    Smith

yes i can hear it spin up a few times then sounds. It makes two clicks then spins then two clicks and spins does this about 5 or 6 times then stops and does nothing. would putting the laser fix in now help this or is it some thing else?

    Thanks for the help

my pstwo with a magic 5 kx did the exact same thing. Im assuming the laser was blown because everything worked but wouldnt recognize a disc, just said "Reading disc" and then "There is no data". I ended up returning mine for a new one, remoded new one with resistor, and now works fine.

Im afraid putting the laser fix now will not do you any good. Its a preventative measure not a repair.

how can i test to make sure the laser is dead before i order a new one. how can the laser just break after 10mins of use? does it not take a few hours of game play with cheap media to break them?

Nope laser can go at any time, mine took 4 months (chipper said he had done romeo mod - he hadn't), replaced LA6508/Laser, applied romeo mod and all working fine now
