region code? –
I was looking at my V5 Mainboard and I noticed five letters with links next to them. Only one of these is linked. Hopefully attached is a pic of what I'm talking about. I have editted the pic so it is clearer.
I wondered if the letters stood for; J=Japan, U=USA, E=Europe, A=Australia and D=?? I tried moving the link from E (mine is a UK console, anyone in the USA know where their link is?) to the U, but it didn't make any difference so I moved it back.
Anyone got any ideas as to what these are for? Or does anyone know for a fact what these are for?
Hmm, pretty interesting, but where did you find these points on mb? I can try to search on mine here (it's a U/C model).
Region codes are 8 in total, 1 to 6 is trivial.
7 = reserved
8 = transatlantics and planes
FF = region free
Ok the only place I know of them is on the V5 board (probably on others, but as I don't have any others I can't say for sure). They are on the front left hand side just above PS13.
Just looked at a pic of a V7 board and they are in the same place. So V5, V6 and V7 have them for sure.
I was thinking of regions more in the way Sony split the world up (eg. model no. 30001=USA, 30002=EU etc) rather than DVD regions.
This has been proved before, yes it means jap etc.
the link does nothing, it's just a visual indicator.
god knows what it's for though.
