    I installed a Red Magic 3.1 on a V4 U/C console but it couldn't
    boot any D9.
The chip was tested to boot D9 on a V5 NTSC/J console.
The wires I used for the V4 were mixture of single core 30AWG
wires & some pre-stripped wires that I got from mods4less.
But on the V5 NTSC/J, I used only 30AWG wires.
Is it due to the wires or len?

We need to know the exact behaviour symptoms and confirmation that non-DVD9 import originals work. Also does DVD-R work? Do DVD9 movies play?

If your install is OK (other import originals and DVD-R play) then if DVD9 movies don't play, it's your lens.

ckt, as you are in singapore, try MGS2 Substance DVDGAME type HK Silver, not Xenosaga as Xenosaga is far more faulty, test it with and without swap in ps2 mode, try a DVD9 movie too as Charlie said, and if this chip functions as good as bluechip in PSX mode, you can boot any form of NTSC Games on the ps2 from browser in psx mode with a trick (see thread about my Network Adaptor Disc).

All can played including DVD9 movies.
BTW, the non-boot D9 were machine pressed Xenosaga & MGS2
substance. The booting rate is less than 10% after many trys.

Just swap the Red magic 3.1 modded non-boot V4 with another
drive assembly from a unmodded V4, well, also same.
    D9 games don't boot.

ckt, why won't you try to use AR/GS to help you boot D9 games. I have had problem with D9 silver MGS2S on all my frds v4-v7 with Magic 3.1. It just cannot direct boot like DVD-R. So I tried to use AR/GS to help. If boot successful. I believe is the D9 silver quality problem.

OK then I know what it most likely is.

10% boot rate means the old Magic 3.x problem of having a fixed window in which to get the boot done.

If your laser isn't tip top condition it takes longer to get the wobble in the groove recognised and the boot basically times out. DVD9 movies don't face this check.

So it's the combination of v4 laser and Magic 3.1 I reckon.

When I put the Magic 3.1 into a V5, all my D9 can be booted.
I had just installed a Messiah 2 into 2nd V4 and all D9 can be
    booted too.
But if I put back the Magic 3.1 into the 1st V4 and swap the
drive assembly with the 2nd V4, well, the booting problems of
    my D9 come again.
    The 1st V4 is 013 board with 040 non-gap bios and the 2nd V4
is 010 board with 030 gap bios. My both D9 were pressed
    Xenosaga and MGS2 Substance.
If len problems, how come when I swap from the 100% boot
    2nd Messiah 2 V4 drive to the Magic 3.1 1st V4, it don't boot well?
If the chip problem, but the Mgaic 3.1 work well in the V5.
    Still can't figure out what.
