Has anyone else got experience of this with the playstation? I have several consoles, some of them modded and the PS2 is the only one that gives me problems. My DVD Recorder is NTSC and PAL compatible so in theory I should be able to record both outputs from the PS2 but not in reality. All PAL outputs record fine but when I run NTSC games, Playstation 2 and Playstation One games behave differently as follows.

Playstation 2 games can be recorded providing I set the Recorder to NTSC. The PS2 browser screen then displays incorrectly and is clearly being read as PAL but the game screen display correctly and is being read as NTSC. Playstation One games either display very poorly and are not worth recording or display clearly but are compressed upwards with a black band at the foot of the screen.

After a lot of trial and error I've worked out this is the DMS3 I have in the PS2 causing the problem and not the DVD Recorder. The DVD Recorder works fine with every other console, modded and otherwise. I've downloaded the latest DMS3 firmware and tried changing all the settings but to no avail.

I should add that the DMS3 works fine if I don't switch on the DVD Recorder and attempt to record anything. However with the way the PS2 browser screen displays in a different format to the game screen on Playstation 2 games I'm not that impressed with the DMS3. I don't have the same problem on my modded xbox.

Just in case anyone says it, it's not an installation issue. Problems only arise when the DVD Recorder and PS2 have to work together, this is a Modchip issue. Has anyone else tried this and had better results with a different modchip?

    Many thanks.

I was having the same trouble with my Matrix Infinity console recording though a capture device (though it has been fixed somewhere between rev. 1.38-1.5 and works flawlessly now.) Anyways I type of worked around it by setting input type as SCART which ended up giving me the last display type you mentioned for PS1 games. Workable since I could crop and resize as recording. You probably can't do either though.

But no need to do anything now, my TV switches properly to NTSC3.58 now as well which it never did beforce I updated the firmware. I'll put money on the two being related.

Not much help for you though sadly.

That's interesting, so you think it's a firmware issue. I've been looking at this for over a year now, off and on, and I think my output was also altered when I updated the firmware on the PS2 so that may well be the case. Hopefully, as more and more DVD Recorders become common place this issue will become more highlighted and fixed by the Mod manufacturers.
