    Hi guys,

I'm not sure what the problem with my friend's ps2 is. He's had it for a year, and just a couple days ago he tried to play game (nfl 2k3). Everything is ok, it gets to the menu, but it wouldn't load the games, it just got stuck on the loading screen.

So he tried the backup of his nfl 2k3, and it turns out that's even worse. It doesn't even get into the game at all. the ps2 logo comes up but it stays black and the laser sounds like it's a sort of vaccuum. The noise is not clicking, just kind of loud, liken to a cd-rip sound.

He also tried the backups of his other games and none of them work either, all have the same problem. All his originals have the same problem too, where they can get into the game but cannot load where the action starts.

Thanks for any comments or suggestions. I ran a search so please don't kill me if you find a topic elsewhere . Also, he was gonna try cleaning it out, but he doesn't know how, so he wants to know if he should find professional help before attempting to clean the laser.

you can try cleaning the laser with a laser cleaning kit. dont even have to open the ps2 to use it. you could try that before you consult a professional installer.

What kind of modchip does he have installed?
No matter how much Jell-O you put in a swimming pool you still can't walk on water.

Backups-4-PS2 has a very detailed PS2 Error cleaning guide you can buy. Tells you properly how to take it apart, clean the laser, and even strenghten it yourself. I think the guide is like a $1.99. I love the site!!

ok it's a laser problem but IT'S not a cleaning problem. When you start up his ps2, right away there's a fast de-de-de-de- noise like the laser is jammed, then it well move normally. However, when this noise comes up the game is not going to get booted. When it doesn't come up, the game works, but not for very long

    anyone know any solutions?
