Weird problem with V7 laser that worked for a half year!

I have a V7 from a guy here, I soldered the Mini Apple Pro modchip in it about a half year ago. A few days ago while playing Def Jam Vendetta, the laser started making strange cracking sounds and the game crashed. I was eating a chocolat bar at that moment and the guy (a friend from the guy who owns the PS2) taked 1 minute before resetting. When he resetted the PS2, the console still maked this sound the first 4 seconds when we turned it on. A few times pressing reset was enough to stop it. 1 day ago, the sound appeared again and I don't know how to get it away. The laser still reads games but in a game that sound appears again and the games crash. Somebody knows how to get this solved, PLEAASSSE give reactions, Thank You.

(Sorry for my bad English, I'm from The Netherlands)

Well, it seems to be a laser issue. You might try the azimuth and white cog adjustments, of course with care. Anyway some of us noticed a few V5/V7 BOARDS suffer from this problem, no matter what we tried, except using some media that worked fine with the actual board/laser combination.

Here's the azimuth adjustment guide if you still need it:

Read ADjusting Lens Angle part 2.

Yes, some of us discovered that even unmodded machines can suffer from this problem and a lot of machines that were modded but the mod was removed and unfortunatelly the problem has not gone. Also in many cases it does not help if you change the laser, it was an unknown problem of some V5 and V7 boards. Of course using the proper media (1-2 out of the many type) helped and the machines are still runing fine, but click with every other media.

    regards, Stephen

I used a bloody original and that anoying sound still appeared and that game (NBA Street VOL 2) didn't even loaded . It looks like a PS2 that's stoned or something :S :P. Is there a way to get that anoying sound away when using a original and get the laser focussing?

I'm going to ajust it, then see what happens, hoping that the console will focus! Will the Clicking sound dmaage something in the PS2 or the laser?

    regards, Martijn
