Random RSOD and SCEX question
Random RSOD and SCEX question –
I have v10 PS2, complete with a new LA, Romeo Mod done with the trace cut method, and a KHS 400C laser. I have a Titan SX modchip installed, same type as show in the picture below. However I randomly keep getting an RSOD while booting sometimes, at first it was more frequent, but I readjusted the laser height, and figured it might have been caused by the 5V and ground wires on the modchip having been installed with thin wiring, so I replaced those with thicker wires. Cleaned the laser, applied silicone lubrication on the sled, the spindle, put it back together. The RSOD rate has reduced significantly, but I still sometimes get an RSOD while trying to boot. Also I only use either TDK or Verbatim DVD-R to burn my backups.
My question would be, is this just the modchip not being oh-so perfect and it's normal, or could this actually damage my LA/400C in the long run? When I get the game to boot and it runs for a while, I never notice any problems, everything is running smooth.
Also one more question I'd have. I was told that I have to remove the SCEX capacitor in order to prevent potential damage to my laser when playing PS1 games, but I noticed that whoever installed the modchip had bridged the SCEX capacitor and the black one right next to it at the two ends with a solder blob. Could this lead to a problem if I try to play PS1 games?
