Ah! The Holy Grail!

The boot stratey of the magic series is flawed.
I just tested both my copies of Slam tennis and Sky odyssey on a V3 console with magic 3 clone.
Both boot and work fine.
The point I was triyng to make is that there is alot of people out there patching their games (not necessarely EA games) with EA patchers such as the adrenaline patched and so on which modifies the boot sectors on a game. Why they do it is beyond me!
I have chipped loads of consoles for customers and some of them did complain about some games not booting. For peace of mind I set up a test and double checked every single game with my own backups. Mine all booted fine. After a few weeks of headaches i found that the only difference is that their games (for whatever reason) had been patched and I know all of mine aren't as they are all tested and clearly labelled if they are.
Gaz, is your sky odyssey your own rip or did you get it from somewhere?
If anyone is in doubt I am willing to post you a copy of the above mentioned games so you can test it yourself.
....Or even better patch one of your currently working games.....and find they won't boot again!
/me laughs at all
I suppose using rips not only deprives you of movies and some sounds, looks like gameplay too. Anyway considering that mr. magic is from Taiwan (if i remember correctly), they wouldn't concentrate on running rips perfectly since piracy is rather rampant over here in asia. let's just say that i buy dvd silvers for much lower than what most sites sell dvd-r's for
Formerly Team Plusnewz.
ok, I burnt slam tennis onto verbatim media this time.
this is the third re-burn, the other two medias have had no problems in my ps2, but now it works, on verbatim at 8x.
it seems that that game will only boot on verbatim,
and the sky odyssey is I don't know what rip, but I'll reburn it, and see if that helps.
It's not the problems with games, or patches, or something else.
It depend's on what program you are using to burn PS2 games.
Just burn ps2 games(or just copy them) with Alcohol 120% if you want them(on any media) to work with magic chips. Alcohol 120 program always solves this problem, by the way games burned with nero (but just on my pc) also work fine, while for some friends it doesn't work, but with Alcohol 120 everything works 100%.
First of all when you say DVD-rips you are taking out any real assistance here cause most people don't support rips here. They either work or they don't. I personally don't play with them unless I am bored and the ones I have burned did actually play. I decided to skip the middle man and get a DVD burner. Now I just copy 1 to 1.
As for your burns, it has been written by just about any authority on PS2 copies to NOT BURN OVER 4X for dependable copies. You already specified you burned at 8x. Try not to burn over 4x with your CD-r's and you may find it to play nicer with your copies. I have used the following CD-r media with 100% success reading and playing:
All were burned at 4x or lower.
Memorex 48x white tops
I think the biggest problem that people have is not researching or learning the do's and don't's of activities like these. Why not learn from others mistakes and take the advice of these people and be successful from the start?
I very much doubt it's a software problem, cd-rwin has always kicked ass for me.
I always burn with cd-rwin.
......this is getting bitchy!!!
