Random Red Screening –
02-03-2003,05:20 PM
I just modded my PAL v4 with a green PCB magic 3.1, works great, other than no controller port 2 action, but I think that's because I burnt the ribbon.
it's now deciding to not boot my rip of "slam tennis" I even reburnt it onto better media, not scratched, on decent media to start with, (memorex).
I don't get it!, I had this working with my no-solder mod.
any ideas?

Oh yes! See my review on Magic 3.1. SLAM TENNIS can now be added to a whole raft of rips that don't work with Magic 3.1.
The boot stratey of the magic series is flawed.

i dun remember the original magic 3.1 being on the green pcb. its either blue or red right? urs is a clone? that could b the reason

the reason is that Magic 2 or 3 cannot boot EA patched games.
Nothing to do with the game itself. There are alot of people out there that still un-necesseraly patch games for EA boot.
I know of people that EA patch anythig just as a habit.
Don't do it.

just asnwering the question for people that don't know why their games don't boot.
I run a few tests and found this to be the problem.
I never patch my games and a friend of mine does.
Mine all work, his don't

That's probably too loose to be conclusive because there are a lot of steps including the media, burning speed, copying paramaters etc.
Anyway Gaz's problem relates to DVD rips not EA CD based games. You don't patch rips so far as I know.

Yes mine are dvd rips, and I have never applied an EA patch in my life.
