hi there. i'm new to all this and had a few questions. sorry if this has been covered before, but i couldn't find much with the search.

i have the opportunity to get an asian ps2 (purchased in taiwan).
    - what complications might there be with using this system in the us?
    - what bios/version would most probably be purchased?
    - can this be chipped to play both asian and us games as well as playing any region dvds?

most importantly, is it worth it? sorry for being such a noob. i'm just completely clueless

But it will be a crappy old version console. Or something that has been used. New us ps2's are better or just get a us premod.

Look man, you really have to stop judging the ps2s by their location.
As for your question, it will most likely be modded with bluechip, it WILL support US and ASIAN, and will boot originals, and original imports from browser in PSX mode, and you can boot an IMPORT US DVD REGION X from browser in PSX mode with Multiregion, And You Can Play PAL DVDs on it, a very rare site (it's ntsc j)
you may get SCPH-30006R, 39006, 30007R or 39007, those are the most likely found ones in Taiwan.
Btw, messiahfan, Asian ps2s are ENGLISH, YES! English, French, German, Etc. Like an american ps2, i'd edit those posts if i were you!

    Yes they are

Not that it takes a great deal of understanding anyway. I bought a Japanese PS2 because I got it at a really low price and I speak moderate Japanese, but I've only ever had to use it when playing games.

The System menu is in Full English
