Questions about Romeo Fix on v9 PS2?
Questions about Romeo Fix on v9 PS2? –
I did a V9 with a crystal chip and did the Romeo Fix...However now the PS2 won't read any disks I put in it..It boots up fine, but when I put a disk it jusys says no Data (I Don't get the red screen though, it just doesn't read anything). I left the top open and I see its spinning (slowly though).Could the problem be the Romeo Fix?
A correctly installed Romeo fix should never be a problem - some people speak of using 8 volts instead of 5 when reading is an issue but this should never be needed.
Check your laser coils - they may have already been damaged prior to your modding the station. If they have dropped below 4 ohms they may need replacing. Which also may mean that the LA6508 chips is also stuffed.
But I would first tripple check your installation of the Crystal chip. then make sure that you have correctly lifted Pin17 to isolate it from the 12 volt rail when doing the Romeo mod.
If I went to check to make sure its not the chip, can I just remove the 3V wire from the crystal chip so it doesn't get any power and the PS2 will boot like there is no chip?..I jus don't want to have to remove all the wires from the chip..
it does not help, the chip will be powered by other wires.
you have to tap reset 6 times.
Ok so I completly remove the chip and wires and also removed the Romeo Mod, I cleaned evertyhing and l;ooks good. So basically I'm back to Stock PS2...
However now I'm still having the same problem. It won't read any disks, the dvd-rom spins but it doesn't spin at usual fast spins, instead it spins slow for like 2 senconds then stops then spins slow for another 3 senconds and then stops..The screen doesn't do anything, it just stays in the browser screen displaying "NO DATA". Any ideas?

thats a mystery man.. Ive had that happen with perfectly soldered wires. Put the board on the shelf for a few weeks.. come back and it works fine.. baffles me to.
