Im looking in to getting a ps2 and playing the emus and such on it(not so much for backups,somone told me you cant play them online)
Would i need a modchop to do that?(i dont like that swap method)

if you dont wanna swap, then your answer would be yes, you need a modchip.
You'll still need a chip in that case. However, if you are interested in playing emulators much more than backups, then get yourself a chipped Xbox instead. The Xbox's homebrew scene is far better than the PS2.
A lot of XBox chips don't even require soldering.
