Alright I'm new to this whole modding thing but really want to give it a try I really like challenges and am always drawn to them for some reason. well my question is that I've only soldered once so do you guys think that I would be trying something that is way about my skill level?

If I were you I would pass and send it to a professional. You might end up breaking the PS2. But if you are really driven or whatever. Why not. It's a big challenge.

My first solder and mod chip install EVER was the 29-Wire Enigmah-X mod chip for the XBOX console, it was very hard to do at first because I didn't have the skill and/or knowledge but if you practice a bit on broken or old pcb boards, then do that, if you really are interested in it, try it because that is what I did and now I do installations for money locally and by mail-in. Once you get it right the first time, you'll be very happy, if you break the ps2, well it happens and it is all a learning experience, you have to remember that. I say do it and good luck because if you don't, then you will never learn, right? However the best version of the Playstation2 to start out on is a V7 in my opinion as the solder points are nowhere near as hard. Just a small tip, the VIAs on the backside of the V9/V10/V11 board will be hard (if you're doing that version), just lightly scrape them until you see the gold/silver/copper colour then flux and add some solder to them, then tin the wire, flux it and add some solder (more) to the wire and solder it onto the VIA and you're done.

Good luck and I hope it all works out for the best.
Solderless Mods and Flip tops are like tampons, every pussy needs one!
