Ok, I right now have 2 Magic3.1s here, ONE is going to be for a customer and the other one is gonna be for a v7 PS2 I am getting next friday/saturday. I here that with any mod chips, you can damage the BA5 chip on a v7 very easily (ie/ it gets VERY hot and overheats then blows). Is this true and if so, how can I prevent it. Thanks

heh, more likely to blow the ps14 fuse. with magics i've never had a problem..just make sure you stick it somewhere that gives plenty of overhead clearance between top of chip and the grounding plate. When removing grounding plate for first time..make sure the rubber heatsinks don't come off (they like to stick to the plate). Also make sure not to bend the other metal plate (flimsy one with heatsink for emotion engine) as it NEEDS to fit snugly over everything. Obviously make sure your wires don't encumber the plates and make sure to screw ALL the screws back in (i've opened a few botched installs that were missing half the screws). Lastly make sure not to damage or pinch the wires going to the fan...even if they are pinched it can cause the fan fuse to blow..and no fan=overheat in a matter of minutes. o ya..and per my other thread..throw some electrical tape on top of the chip so you don't short anything on the plate...it'd suck to have a fuse blow on your first install..i got lucky and it didn't happen till recently..now i'm rethinking all my installation methods.

thanks for replying, that helped me a good deal. Personally I think I am a good installer, the first chips I ever started installing were the Enigmah XBOX Mod Chips (29 Wires) and they worked flawlessly, now I do Xecuter2Lite but almost any n00b can do that. How do I make sure that the rubber heatsinks don't come off, what is a good spot to mount the chip, AND is it possible to put any other type of heatsink on those chips if the rubber heatsink comes off and does not want to stick on again

    Thank you

if they come off ususally just pressing on em real hard (right after you open) will make em stick good enough, once the plate is screwed down those heatsinks aren't movin anywhere.

enigmah was my first mod too...WAY simpler than magic..even though less points on a magic. Ps2 is infinately more picky about things, and because the assembly is packed so tight compared to an xbox..you need to be extremely careful on your wiring. Esp the points on the "underside" of the board (D through I), make sure you only expose the bare minimum of metal wire needed to make the join, when the plate presses down it can push the wires together and screw stuff up.also tape down your wires in such a way as to prevent stress on them..also so they don't move around and do weird stuff. i've learned just about everything i know about ps2's on this forum (and of course trial and error..nothin like breakin a 200$ piece of equipment to force you to learn how to fix or NOT break).
