  1. #1 PS2 Question About The Disc Swap Trick
    DRIFT GOD Guest
hi, i read about playing burnt games on PS2 by taking the end of the disc drawer off, and loading GS2, then when it says to change discs you slide the little tab under the disc drawer all the way to the right, and manually open the drawer and insert the burnt game, then slide the tab back to its original position and press the "x" button to load the game.

my question is, will this work if i load a PAL game into my NTSC PS2?

If GT Concept is a DVD based game then you must use a "double swap" technique to boot it with GS2/AR2. This means you must insert an original DVD game with a TOC equal to or greater than the game you are swapping in. You must do this by pressing the 'eject' button normally. The PS2 must read and validate the original game, and the disc must stop spinning before you use your tray-open swap trick.

Search forums for more details of the double swap trick required for DVD/DVD-R booting using GS2/AR2.

You will also need AR V2+ and it will not work if your PS2 is a version 7!

The PS2 must read and validate the original game, and the disc must stop spinning before you use your tray-open swap trick

when does the disc stop spinning??? mine never stops, also i have a V1 PS2,and GS2, thanx for the help guys

No you don't need to check your laser diode immediately. I think Villasg is misunderstanding.

When (or whether) the DVD original stops spinning depends on the exact version of GS2 you have, and the techniques you use. It can get a little complicated, but there is a method for most versions of GS2 that will stop the original DVD game from spinning so you can perform the swap.

For example, with GS2 v1.90 through 1.93 you can simply select 'Start Game' and 'Without Codes' while the original DVD game is in the drive. When the 'Press X to Start Game' screen comes up, the disc should stop spinnng. Then you would perform your tray swap.

With later versions like 1.99 you need to do a "code overload" trick to get the disc to stop spinning. Search around for info on 'Dave Mirra' or 'Armored Core 2' code overload tricks to get the original DVD to stop spinning.

Sorry I can't give more detailed info, but it's been a long time since I've dealt with these issues. If you really want to make swap booting simpler then get the Swap Magic discs. They eliminate all of the confusing issues that the GS2 has with DVD-R booting.

Next someone will undoubtedly tell you to get a no-swap modchip installed in your PS2.
