'Puter and PS2 sharing internet connection.... –

I am wanting to have my computer and PS2 to share a phoneline connection at the same time. So if someone is using the 'puter to surf the web they can also go online with the PS2. I heard that if i put a ethernet card in my computer and run cat5 from the card to the ps2 that would work when my computer dials up. They would both share the internet, is that true? or will i need to setup a network? thanks

Hmm unlike Xbox ps2 doesnt have a Cat5 socket, only a USB. But however the connection to PC, whether direct or through a hub, internet connection sharing must be installed.

I believe there are programs that allow internet sharing in win95/98. You should look for one that performs masquerading or NAT, and not by proxy.
I remember using one, but don't recall the name.

Windows XP would be easier because it has the software built-in. For Windows ME you can get NAT32. It will give WinMe the ability to share dial-up connections. If you are planning to connect a cat5 cable directly between your computer and ps2 without a hub or switch, you might need a cross-over cable.

Hi there!
For unix/linux/freebsd fans, you can easily make the internet sahring stuff with that O.S.
Hope this helps.
me!
P.S.: just make everything work with the ethernet port. install a dhcp server on the server side, and let the unix make the dirty work.

The best software I've used for sharing connections (LAN, Internet, etc) is WinGate. It even support Macs.
I don't use it now because I've installed XP and I don't have Macs at home
But it's an excellent software.
Greets!

The internet sharing software comes built-in to windows xp. Here a link for the step-by-step instructions on activating that feature:

If you don't want a hub. Just connect a cross-over cable to your ps2. Your xp should be able to act like a router and handle all the address translations.
As a dsl user I am sure you are using the firewall feature, right?
